Hi I'm a student. This is my online journalism assignment for summer 2007. I looked at candidates for two elections in France and Ireland. And then got caught up in the Mahon Tribunal story
Much (though not all) of the content is personally produced
AIB accountants give evidence to the Mahon Tribunal:
“I don’t remember”
I first came upon the Mahon Tribunal through Vincent Browne’s radio show http://www.rte.ie/radio1/tonightwithvincentbrownethe narrations on the show of transcripts from that public enquiry piqued my interest, and during a rainy summer recess from my BA in journalism I decided to attend the Tribunal. It was that, or sit on the couch and watch Judge Judy.2007 in Dublin was the summer that never happened. “Our summer happened last April.” One of the cameramen outside the Tribunal said. Global warming sucks. Goddamit.Inside I return to my seat in the public section, my cheap black shoes’ soles have steadily disintegrated since Monday and my place is marked by scattered pieces of black rubber.A man is seated directly in front of me, 5 metres distant, a small screen obscures his frame but his face is visible. It is hard to make out an expression, distance. I cannot move any closer to the ‘interviewee’, the nearer tables are reserved for the lawyers, solicitors, councilmen and barristers that troupe in and out of this place.
